Apply deodorizing agents to remove any lingering rodent odors.
After rodent infestations, insulation can become contaminated with droppings and urine. It must be carefully removed to avoid airborne particles.
Sanitize the space after the insulation is removed to ensure the area is free of contaminants.
Sealing the attic is a critical part of rodent prevention, as it helps block entry points that rodents use to infiltrate a building. Here's a breakdown of areas to focus on when sealing an attic for rodent control:
Small Gaps and Cracks: Rodents can squeeze through tiny openings. Seal any gaps or cracks around the attic with rodent grade materials that they cannot penetrate, steel, metal flashing and air sealing.
Roof Vents: Use rodent-proof materials to block entry without hindering ventilation. Metal screens etc.
Plumbing and Utility Openings: Rodents often enter through gaps around pipes, wires, and utility lines. Seal these openings with durable materials like concrete, caulk, or mesh screens.
Wall Voids: Ensure that any voids or holes within the walls that lead into the attic or other parts of the building are sealed.
2. Additional Measures:
Roofline and Soffits: Check for any gaps along the roofline or in the soffits (the underside of the eaves) and seal them securely.
Follow-Up: After sealing we need to set traps in several areas of the attic and crawlspace. We will check these one time per week to be sure that there is no existing activity.
Insulation Removal: Carefully extract the contaminated insulation, ensuring minimal dust and contamination spread.
Disposal: Place the insulation into heavy-duty garbage bags, and Insulation Removal bags that attach to the Commercial vacuum. Bags are securely sealed to prevent any risk of exposure or spreading contamination during disposal.
3. Materials and Equipment:
Materials: Rodent-proof sealant, galvanized screen/hardware cloth, and any other necessary sealing materials.
Equipment: Safety ladders and lighting to ensure a thorough inspection for damage and sealing.
PPE: Gloves, safety goggles, masks, and any other personal protective equipment, protective suits, required for safe handling of rodent droppings and nesting.
